Congratulations to Misty! Misty’s paper on career counseling
individuals with HIV was just published in the Journal of
Rehabilitation, (2010) Vol 76 Issue 1 (Jan/Feb/Mar).
Fantastic work Misty!

From SFSU Counseling Department Chair Robert Williams:

“You continue to set a high bar for yourself and our faculty colleagues. Getting a single publication while enrolled in graduate studies is excellent at the doctoral level. Your accomplishment is even greater because you have gone well beyond our expectations in this department.”

First place winners will win a $75 gift certificate for the ACA Bookstore to each team member and a certificate along with a letter of recognition. Second place, each team member will receive a $25 gift certificate at the ACA Bookstore, a certificate and letter of recognition. Third place will receive a letter of recognition and certificate and all participating programs will receive a letter of recognition. There will also be an “Honorable Mention” given to the fourth place winner. The competition is limited to one team per institution.

Steve Shanahan elected President of the ROC!

October 5th, 2009 Comments off

Steve Shanahan, who works at DOR and is current chair of our rehab occupational committee for the whole state, just WON the Presidency for the entire bargaining unit! Nancy Swindell will no longer be president and we will now have someone who will bring our profession in California forward (instead of the opposite, which was happening). His entire slate won. Still awaiting the very final ratification, but the polls have closed! This is just wonderful news and he asked me to share with all who may be interested.

CRCC offers new CRC practice tests online

September 16th, 2009 Comments off

logoThe Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC®), in conjunction with Prometric, has developed and released its new CRC Interactive Practice Test.

Designed to assist students and candidates as they prepare to take the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC) Exam, the CRC Interactive Practice Test:

  • Is taken online at one’s convenience.
  • Contains 50 items representative of content on a live CRC exam.
  • Allows a 48-hour window to take and retake the test.
  • Provides correct answers, rationale, and related references for each of the 50 items
  • May be taken in 2 different modes – Test Mode and Study Mode – both within the 48-hour window and..
  • May be purchased for $39.99 at www.ibt.prometric.com/CRCC.

The CRC Interactive Practice Test consists of 50 items retired from previous live CRC exams – specifically selected to be reasonably representative of the content and statistical properties of a live CRC exam. Practice test items span all 12 domains or content areas covered in the live CRC exam as well as the 2 scoring sections of counseling and rehabilitation/disability.

To maximize the learning experience, the CRC Interactive Practice Test may be taken in 2 modes. Test Mode most closely simulates a live test environment where respondents move from one question directly to the next with final scoring presented upon test completion. Study Mode offers a wealth of information automatically following each question, including the correct answer, rationale, and a corresponding list of references for further study. Students are encouraged to take the CRC Interactive Practice Test in both modes during their 48-hour window.

For more information on the CRC Interactive Practice Test, please direct students to the CRCC web site at www.crccertification.com/pages/crc_exam_preparation/72.php.

To purchase the CRC Interactive Practice Test, and begin the 48-hour test window, please direct students to www.ibt.prometric.com/CRCC.

“CRCC is dedicated and committed to advancing the field of rehabilitation counseling by encouraging and promoting certification, and the CRC credential, among our educator and student communities. As such, we are excited to introduce this new, leading-edge technology designed specifically to help students as they prepare to take the CRC exam. The RSA was well represented at last week’s event put on by the California chapter of the National Rehabilitation Association at San Francisco State University. The event was a chance for Rehab professionals and students to meet and to network. Our department chair, Dr. Robert Williams, was honored for his contributions and continued support of the Rehab program. Safeway was also honored for its continuing efforts to employ persons with disabilities.

Many thanks to Dr. Julie Chronister for introducing our new student organization to the Rehab community (and thanks for the shout-out for the new website)!
