The RSA was well represented at last week’s event put on by the California chapter of the National Rehabilitation Association at San Francisco State University. The event was a chance for Rehab professionals and students to meet and to network. Our department chair, Dr. Robert Williams, was honored for his contributions and continued support of the Rehab program. Safeway was also honored for its continuing efforts to employ persons with disabilities.

Many thanks to Dr. Julie Chronister for introducing our new student organization to the Rehab community (and thanks for the shout-out for the new website)!

Available for Fall 2009:  The Department of Counseling has scholarships available for students enrolled in the Rehabilitation Counselor Training Program who have a specialization or emphasis in rehabilitation counseling. Those wanting to add rehabilitation counseling as an emphasis should contact Dr. Chronister. The scholarships will cover 2009-2010 tuition or $5328 whichever is less. Students will also receive a $500 stipend. Awardees have a payback requirement upon graduation that requires two years employment in the public vocational rehabilitation system or at a non-profit rehabilitation agency for every year of receipt of the award. Priority will be given to those students who can demonstrate that they can meet the cultural and linguistic needs of rehabilitation consumers. However, all interested students are encouraged to apply. Applicants must be in good academic standing. Please submit a short statement about your qualifications for this award to Dr. Chronister by August 24th, 4:30 p.m.
